Frequently asked questions

Good questions deserve clear answers.

How does Gulpie choose a goal?

Gulpie starts with an editable beverage estimate informed by published population reference values. Those values describe total water from food and beverages, so Gulpie uses an approximate beverage portion for a starting point. It is not a personal prescription.

What counts as a drink?

You can record any hydrating drink you choose. Gulpie credits the volume you enter one-to-one and does not score caffeine, energy drinks, electrolytes, sugar, calories, or nutrition.

Why does ice change the amount?

Ice is a fill estimate. A vessel with regular ice may contain less liquid when poured, while melted ice becomes water. Choose the estimate that matches your routine, then edit “Tap will add” if you know the amount you want to track.

Are reminders guaranteed?

No. Reminders are local and best-effort. iOS can delay or hide them because of permission settings, Focus, Notification Summary, device state, or other system behavior. Logging an intake moves the next eligible reminder from that entry.

Does Gulpie know if I am hydrated?

No. Gulpie is a general wellness tracker. It does not diagnose dehydration or overhydration and should not replace clinician guidance.

Who should use extra care?

People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have heart or kidney conditions, take diuretics, have been told to limit fluids, are ill, or exercise in extreme heat should follow clinician guidance rather than a general app suggestion.

Where can I read the sources?

See the dated sources page for the reference materials used in the app’s goal explanation.
